2) No instruction on how the drag race worked even after I explained it was my first time
event, so all fees go toward operational costs. The goal here is to stop the loss of life associated with illegal street racing, yet still support racing for amateur afficionados, which many times are girls! Yeah!!!!
Very Disorganized. I came in as a newbie, never having drag raced before and I assumed this would have been much more organized than it was. I ended up with a very bad experience here for 3 reasons:
DON’T RACE HERE, NOT A PLACE YOU WANT CLUELESS PEOPLE IN CHARGE
1) Time it took to "prep" (1.5 hours)
3) Class rating system was horrible
3) All of the racers are put in different classes based off of expected 1/8th mile times. I had no idea what class I should be in so I asked the pre inspection guy, he said the 9.5-10s class. Well at the end of the day my race times were all in the 8.5-9.0 range with 8.57s being my best time. They have everybody gather for trophies and start asking for people’s times to give out trophies. Well since none of my times were in my class I was immediately disqualified for the entire night. I thought well just move me up to the 8.5s class and I might win because of my 8.57s class time. Nope doesn’t matter because my ticket says 9.5s class, I can’t use it.
We had a great time! The background story of Race Legal is a prime example of transforming a very tragic & devastating event into a legal safe venue for both racers & spectators. Fun to watch the classic makes & models beat out the new ones. Love the smoke emanating up to the heavens & the revving of the motors echoing to hell down below; right before the flash of green. And, sometimes, a touch of the exotic arrives via license plate: Dubai! And, just plain awe at how not one big bad Dodge Ram truck can NOT win 1 race (always loses); how some guy driving his mom's car wins it all in a Pacer; or another guy mixed his fuel too rich, leaving a trail of flames shooting 10 feet out the exhaust while leaving his tranny on the track! If you know all about cars, trucks, & bikes or nothing at all; there is still a thrill to be had by putting the pedal to the metal with house music in the backround. Bring a helmet, a few extra bucks & almost any licensed driver can fulfill their need for speed. This is a non-profit
2) I received literally zero instruction of how the race worked. Obviously I know the gist of it with the light counting down, and go. But I had no idea how far to pull up so I went way past where I was supposed to go, and the racing person had to tell me to reverse back a ways before it made sense that you have to see the stage and pre-stage lights turn on and that’s when you’re all set. Just would have been nice to be told that before I’m up there in front of a few hundred people watching, figuring out where I need to line up. It was also very unclear where the turn out was after the race, would have been nice to know before hand too.
Y'all need to update your website is been 6 years...it's time.
Too much of a risk to take with no insurance on the track and having the workers be as clueless as they were.
I pull up after passing the check list and need to get my numbers, the lady doing it seemed like best friends with the car in front of me and they were talking forever before she noticed me. She finally came up and wrote numbers on my cars, well the guy in front of me was just parked and she went back talking to him. I had to reverse out of the lane and go back through another lane to get around these two just chatting outside of his car. Having no idea where I’m going, I asked a worker where to go and they pointed off into the distance so I went that way and finally found the line to the drag strip.
1) It took approximately 1.5 hours for me to pass the "prep" with my brand new Audi S5 for the track. I had two cars in front of me in line and the tech there checking the cars was being extremely slow. He would check a few things off the list, then walk away and start talking to another employee chatting about who knows what. He seemed in no rush and it was extremely frustrating just sitting there when cars in other lines were getting checked in much faster. He finally got to me, apologized for how long it took, then literally walked away and started chatting with someone else. I'm just standing there like wtf is going on and then give me the "hold on one second" finger. Keep in mind I have a brand new Audi S5 and this guy is literally doing things like pushing on my seat making sure it is secure, asking me to roll down my windows, and checking out if my push to start button works… stuff like that. He was completely clueless. He asked for my helmet and I gave to it him and he checked all this crap for 5 minutes, walked away to chat with another employee, came back and asked me for the helmet to check again… when I handed it to him he looked at it for like 30 seconds and said "Oh I already got this!", I’m like "...yeah I know". Finally I passed the check in an hour and a half later after getting in line, it’s about 9:30pm now with racing ending at 11pm. I already paid my 30$ so might as well still go for it.
